6 Bridges Gallery presents In a Silent Way, an exhibit of photographs by Peggy McClure, from May 30, 2017 to July 8, 2017. A reception takes place at 6 Bridges Gallery, 77 Main St., Maynard, MA, on Saturday, June 17, 7-9 pm as part of Arts Night Maynard.
Shadows: Silent Markers of Time
Photographs of shadows, taken through the same window over several years, mark the quiet passing of time. The shadows were elegant, simple, and calligraphic, warm with the glow of the sun. Sometimes they turned dark and menacing with the weather, and on the rare morning, the light burned red behind them for brief seconds at sunrise.
With the constancy of sunrise, the shadows seemed to remain the same. The subtle changes became obvious over time: day-to-day with the weather, season-to-season with budding leaves and flowers, year-to-year with growth and the eventual demise of the shrubs. Over time, McClure’s own vision shifted from the literal shadows to the folds and fabric of the curtains, the textured depth, the evocative hint of something else, of drawing with light and dark.
6 Bridges Gallery, 77 Main St., Maynard, MA 01754 was established in 2014 by a group of artists to create a retail and display gallery in the heart of downtown Maynard, Massachusetts. The ever-changing work in our gallery includes a diverse range of media and artistic styles. All of our artisans are local; many— including our founding members—are residents of the ArtSpace Maynard studios. Our gallery is owned and operated by our artists, so there is a unique opportunity to meet one or more of them on any given day.
